ASMbly Lab (Artists. Scientists. Makers.) is a week-long popup event/venue where participants explore scientific, artistic and technological ideas through actions of making and doing. Artist, Scientists and Makers independently and in groups however an underlying aim of ASMbly Labs is the creation of new collaborative relationships that develop organically through the encouragement of skills, knowledge and ideas. On the Wednesday of the first week we will be opening up the lab to the public so that they can see what projects are underway and planned. It is also an opportunity for people to propose their ideas for the lab and find potential collaborators.

ASMbly 2013 was described by one visitor as ‘A collection of like-minded people fusing art and science to communicate the beauty, both natural and man-made, found abundantly within nature. Or, less verbosely, some pretty cool folks getting together and making things – you should check it out..
ASMbly Lab 2014 is collectively organised by some of the people who take part in the regular Superposition Events and members of BioLeeds. It is an opportunity for people from different disciplines to compare and contrast their ways of creating, and sharing, new knowledge. Proposed projects being undertaken include amongst others brewing, modeling natural structures with balloons, experiments to explore the potential of brain imaging technology for creative expression, gyroscopic models of atoms, 3D Penrose tiling and on Thursday 4th September, any time between 4pm-7pm, you can drop into to ASMbly and have a hands-on play around with magnetic nanoparticles. Leeds Also. for one week only Leeds Hackspace have agreed to hold their weekly open evening at ASMbly on Tuesday 2nd so if your interested in getting involved with hack culture then come down after 7pm.
ASMbly is open to anyone who wants to take part, and if you’d like to come along and work on your own idea, collaborate with people with different skills and knowledge, or help with someone else’s idea, get in touch through Facebook. We can give you support and guidance for getting started or possibly put you in contact withparticipants whose interests match your own. You’re not expected to be at the lab full time – come as little or as often as you enjoy and your work needs.
